Police Officers

The Trempealeau Police Department has two full time Officers.

Chief of Police

Chief Rick Niedfeldt began his law enforcement career as a part-time police officer for the City of Viroqua.  Chief Niedfeldt was then hired part-time for the Trempealeau Police Department and full-time for the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department.  In May 2007, Chief Niedfeldt was hired full-time with the Trempealeau Police Department.  From 2007 through 2011, Chief Niedfeldt became a shift supervisor, a field training officer, and a vehicle contacts instructor.  One of his greatest achievements was implementing the Trempealeau Chaplaincy Program that ultimately went county-wide.

Chief Niedfeldt currently supervises the entire police department and its daily operations.  The Trempealeau Police Department consists of two full-time officers, and 13 part-time officers.  Chief Niedfeldt is also a volunteer fireman and first responder for both the Trempealeau Fire Department and the Coon Valley Fire Department.

Chief Niedfeldt graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2003 and holds a BA in Sociology and Criminal Justice.  Chief Niedfeldt is currently implementing several initiatives that emphasize neighborhood based problems, which relies on crime prevention and community engagement as the hallmarks of success.
